Snap the back of the package,
and we find pork and alcohol.

Photograph the 원재료명 (ingredients) panel on a Korean product, or scan its barcode, and see whether ingredients Muslims avoid are listed. It does not replace halal certification — it only reads what is printed on the package.

The result shows exactly what was found and why, so you can check it against the package.

The problem

The answer is on the package — but only in Korean.

Everything that goes into a product is listed on the back. It is just no use if you cannot read it.

  • The ingredient list is entirely in Korean
  • Words like 주정 (alcohol) or 돈지 (pork fat) are hard to find even in a dictionary
  • Products without a halal mark have to be checked ingredient by ingredient

How it works

Nothing is guessed. It reads what is printed.

The AI does not decide on its own. The text it reads is checked against a fixed rule table.

  1. 1

    Photograph or scan

Take or upload a photo of the 원재료명 (ingredients) panel. Scanning a barcode looks up labels registered with Korea's Food QR and HACCP systems, and products other people have already photographed in this app.

  2. 2

    Read the text

AI copies the ingredient list and the allergen line ("contains …") exactly as printed. If the photo is blurry or cut off, it asks you to take it again.

  3. 3

    Check against the rules

Pork, blood and alcohol are red. Ingredients of unknown origin, and meat whose slaughter method is not stated, are yellow. The same text with the same settings always gets the same result.

  4. 4

    Show the evidence

It shows which word caused the color, next to the original text it read. Outside the Korean interface, each word comes with its meaning.

This is what you get.

The text comes from the package; the result comes from a fixed rule table.

Ingredients read from the package (원재료명)

밀가루(밀: 미국산), 설탕, 식물성유지(팜유), 주정, 정제소금, 합성향료, 탄산수소나트륨

밀, 대두 함유

Ingredients flagged

  • 주정 (alcohol) — An alcoholic ingredient
  • 합성향료 (synthetic flavoring) — Source cannot be told from the label

Result

Contains a forbidden ingredientThis product contains 주정 (alcohol).

If anything is red, the result is red even when yellow items are also present. If the text was misread, you can take the photo again.

The content above is a made-up example to show the screen layout.

Colors

What red, yellow and green mean.

Green is not a certification. It means nothing forbidden was found.

Red — contains a forbidden ingredient

The ingredient list or allergen line shows pork, something made from pork, blood or alcohol. Examples: 돼지고기 · 돈육 (pork), 라드 (lard), 베이컨 (bacon), 햄 (ham), 선지 · 혈장 (blood), 주정 · 에탄올 · 알코올 (alcohol), 맛술 · 미림 (cooking wine), 청주 (rice wine), 와인 (wine).

Yellow — needs checking

An ingredient's source cannot be told from the label. Examples: 젤라틴 (gelatin), 유화제 (emulsifier), 향료 (flavoring), 효소 (enzyme), 동물성 유지 (animal fat), L-시스테인 (L-cysteine), 코치닐 (carmine). Beef, chicken and duck are yellow too — Korean labels never state how the animal was slaughtered. A blurry or cut-off photo also gives yellow.

Green — no forbidden ingredient found

None of the ingredients above were found in the text that was read. It does not mean the product is halal certified. A barcode alone never gives green — you need to photograph the package in your hand.

Who it is for

Made for people like you.

For anyone who has to check Korean food without a halal mark themselves.

  • Muslim students and workers living in Korea
  • Muslim travelers visiting Korea

  • Koreans buying snacks for a Muslim friend

Good to know

What this app does not do

  • It does not check halal certification. It is not a substitute for a certification mark.
  • "Made in the same facility" notices (cross-contamination) are not used for the result. You can change this in settings if you want to avoid those too.
  • It cannot know what is not printed. Things like slaughter method or the source of a flavoring stay yellow.
  • It does not decide whether you should eat something. It shows what the label says; the decision is yours.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How can I tell if a Korean snack or ramen is halal?

First look for an official halal certification mark on the package. If there is none, check the 원재료명 (ingredients) panel on the back for pork words such as 돼지고기, 돈육 or 라드, alcohol words such as 주정, 알코올 or 맛술, and ingredients of unknown origin such as 젤라틴 (gelatin). This app finds these words for you when you photograph that panel.

Is this a halal certification app?

No. It is not a certification body and does not check certification. It only looks for forbidden ingredients in the text printed on the package.

If the result is green, is it safe to eat?

Green means no forbidden ingredient was found in the ingredient list and allergen line that were read. Things not on the label, like slaughter method or processing, cannot be known — the decision is yours.

What is 주정 (jujeong) on a Korean ingredient list?

주정 is food-grade alcohol (ethanol) made by fermenting grains and other starches. It often appears in Korean drinks, sauces, bread and rice cakes. This app marks it red.

What if the label says it was made in a facility that also handles pork?

That is an allergen notice about the factory, not a statement that the product contains pork. By default the app shows it separately in grey and does not use it for the result. Turn it on in settings if you want to avoid those products too.

Can I use it if I cannot read Korean?

Yes. The app is available in Korean, English, Arabic, Indonesian and Malay. The label text itself stays in Korean so you can match it against the package, with the meaning shown next to each word.

Why does a barcode scan never show green?

The registered label may be a different version from the package in your hand. A barcode only gives red or yellow; green is given only when you photograph the back of the package yourself.
